What these terms mean
- Aesthetic vs functional
- Aesthetic work is rhinoplasty, reshaping the outside of the nose. Functional work is septorhinoplasty, correcting the septum so the nose breathes. An ENT surgeon approaches the nose function-first; the aesthetic follows.
- Open vs closed
- These describe the incision approach. Closed keeps every incision inside the nostrils. Open adds a small incision across the skin between the nostrils so the framework can be seen directly.
- On the table
- Intra-operative views taken during surgery, before and after the work within the same procedure.
