What these terms mean
Aesthetic vs functional
Aesthetic work is rhinoplasty, reshaping the outside of the nose. Functional work is septorhinoplasty, correcting the septum so the nose breathes. An ENT surgeon approaches the nose function-first; the aesthetic follows.
Open vs closed
These describe the incision approach. Closed keeps every incision inside the nostrils. Open adds a small incision across the skin between the nostrils so the framework can be seen directly.
